Volume 1 prologue
I’ll never forget that day
I had a girlfriend
that I’d been dating for almost a year. Her name was Aisaka Reina. We went to
different universities, but we were the same age and got along well. And she
was so cute I felt like I didn’t deserve her. She had a gentle personality and
was often envied by those around her. Compared to middle and high school
relationships, university student relationships are a lot more mature.
Naturally, they are also adult relationships. In a way, it’s only natural that
people would be envious
I was so
proud to be dating such a great girlfriend that I even planned a surprise.
“I wonder if something like this would be good
for our one-year anniversary?”
I was
holding an expensive bottle of champagne that I had bought for out one-year
anniversary date.
Planning
something as simple as drinking champagne made for the anniversary of when we
started dating, something that would be a typical couple’s dream, was something
that I would never have thought possible before.
I also
booked her favorite Italian course meal for the next day, so I was sure she
would be happy.
As I got
closer to the house, I felt a sense of anticipation about how Reina would
react, but also a slight sense of anxiety that all my preparations would not be
worth it.
However,
what awaited me in front of my house was the inexplicable situation of my
girlfriend holding hands with another man.
“Let’s break
up.”
I never
imagined that our one-year relationship would end in such a way.
----This
happened one month before I met Santa.
With the
arrival of the beautiful Santa girl, my daily life changed drastically.
“Santa won’t
come even if you’re a good kid……”
I had just
started smoking this year. The smoke from the cigarette flickered beneath the
cold sky.
I, Hasegawa
Yuuta, was venting my frustration in a park near the station.
“Depending
on Santa’s reward, I may or may not be a good kid”
My friend
Mino Ayaka, who was waiting for me to finish smoking, replied with a grin. I
could roughly guess what she was going to say be her expression.
“And what reward
is that?”
“Boyfriend!”
“Of course.”
Ayaka pursed
her lips as she curtly replied to the expected answer.
“What, why
not? That’s what most people are like at this time of year.”
As she saw
me put my third cigarette into my mouth, she asked, “What do you want?” It
seemed like she already knew my answer, and her mouth was already breaking into
a smile.
“Money”
“Pfft, I
knew it!”
Ayaka bursts
out laughing as if she had been waiting for that answer.
“Shut up.”
This time it
was my turn to purse my lips. Seeing this, Ayaka laughed even more amusedly.
“You’re
still hung up on your ex-girlfriend, huh?”
“Wrong”
“Hahaha, no
good. I can’t stop laughing.”
“That’s not
it!”
Whin I got
angry and raised my voice, Ayaka finally stopped laughing.
“Sorry,
sorry. I got carried away.”
“You have a
terrible personality”
“Don’t start
sulking”
As Ayaka
tapped me on the shoulder, her mouth twitching as she tried to hold back her
laughter, I couldn’t help but sigh.
I’ve been
friends with Ayaka for quite a long time, from my second year in high school to
the present, my second year in college. We’re in the same department, so we
spend a lot of time together.
Ayaka, who
has what is considered a beautiful face by the public, is very popular.
However, as
we got to know each other better, I began to think she had a flawed
personality, and for whatever reason, she was unable to find a boyfriend.
I don’t
dislike her tendency to laugh off other people’s misfortunes. In fact, I felt a
little lighter when she laughed at me after I broke up with my ex-girlfriend.
I broke up
with my ex-girlfriend a month ago after she cheated on me, and most of my
friends were upset when they heard about it and tried to comfort me somehow.
I hated
seeing them like that, so I was grateful to Ayaka for laughing it off.
Although
some say she has a bad personality, Ayaka is actually a pretty kind person In
fact, right now, even though she’s not a smoker, she’s still willing to
accompany me without a single frown.
“So, what’s
going on with your ex-girlfriend? Do you still keep in contact?”
“You idiot,
there’s no way I would do that. I’m not that mentally strong.”
“Alright,
alright. Are you gonna come to the blind date soon?”
Ayaka smiles
with a sparkle in her eyes. Ayaka, who has a wide range of connections with
people from various clubs, sometimes serves as the organizer of mixers and
invites me.
“Huh?”
“I’ll be
your Santa!”
“Oh, will I
get paid? I’ll go then”
“No way! Why
should I have to pay you?”
“Well, I’ll
be going”
I pushed the
cigarette into the ashtray and left the smoking area
“Oh, are you
leaving?”
“Sorry, I
have to work a part-time job today.”
“I see. See
you later. If you feel like going, send me a message on LINE.”
“Sure.”
After a
short exchange, I headed home.
I didn’t really
like group dates.
The part-time
job was a lie that I came up with on the spur of the moment, but I had no
choice since I was likely to receive endless invitations if I stayed with Ayaka.
The
lingering scent of cigarettes that soaked into my clothes was very strong
today.
Translators note: Alright folks, lets do this one last time. (Shout out to you if you get that reference). For too long this series has flown under the radar, and I've wanted to read it for quite some time. As a wise mad Titan once said: "Fine, I'll do it myself." I already have all the novel volumes purchased, so it's just a matter of translating it to English. I'm also fairly new at translating so try to bear with me and let me know if I make any huge mistakes. I'm also currently a full time college student.................... so yeah, do with that info as you will. I'll try to get these out as fast as I can.
